Business opportunity – Mountainfeet

After nearly ten years of highly successful trading in Marsden, Si has reached an age where he’s ready to pass on Mountainfeet to someone with energy and the same passion for excellence in the outdoor footwear and foot health arena.

Mountainfeet currently trades for four days a week using an appointment booking system for fittings and health appraisals that has proved both practical and popular.  Customers are effectively ‘filtered’ by this system meaning that only those who are truly committed to either purchasing footwear and/or needing specialist attention actually walk through our door.  From a business perspective this means we have almost a 100% conversion of appointments to completed sales – even when a suggested product isn’t in stock our customer will generally wait because they know it’s the right item for them.  Lead time on appointments is generally around 10-14 days although during Covid we’ve had backlogs of up to six weeks which show the amount of take up for the services Mountainfeet offers!

Si has built up a huge amount of trust and goodwill within the outdoor industry and the mountain sports fraternity – he wants to see this carry on with the right successor and for that person to enjoy the work/lifestyle balance he’s enjoyed for ten years.

The sale of Mountainfeet represents a true turnkey business opportunity – everything is in place for the right minded new owner to hit the ground running with full assistance from Si where needed or desired while they find their feet (pardon the pun!).  Having already canvassed most of our key account manufacturers, they are provisionally happy to work with a successor that we vouch for.  Our landlords are also happy to extend the lease to a new owner – we have been loyal and credit worthy tenants for three full terms and in return they have been professional, helpful and approachable.  The premises we occupy at Lakeside were renovated by us in 2011/12, are bespoke for the business we’re in and include a spacious and comfortable sales floor with three separate storage areas and a very useful workshop.  There’s a large car park and we are proximal to the village of Marsden with its ever increasing range of amenities.

A reasonable and realistic amount will be asked for the business (stock, goodwill, fixed assets etc) and financial assistance may be possible to help the right person if needed.  The name Mountainfeet will be offered for at least a transitional period of time for no extra cost along with domain name and fully functioning website too.  Full details will be available to serious enquirers along with accounts up to the year 2020/21. Mountainfeet runs with extremely low overheads compared to most retail businesses which adds to the viability and profitability of the shop.

Si sees two possible candidate types for fitting the bill to take Mountainfeet on:

Either someone already well versed with the outdoor retail industry; a current representative, retail manager or assistant, footwear sales expert etc. who has a passion for developing and maintaining their expertise in footwear sales and foot health matters whilst wanting quality recreation time outside of working hours.

Or, someone with a clinical job such as a podiatrist or physiotherapist who has an affinity with the outdoor world and is possibly seeking a more lifestyle based second career with less stress, hours and responsibility.

From our viewpoint, someone who already lives in proximity to Marsden or who would relocate closer to our village would be preferred – this is a business that has strong community links and integrating with our excellent village life would reap massive benefits.  There’s a great business and practitioners network in the Colne Valley too that we’re proud to be a part of.

Si and Liz moved to Marsden seventeen years ago and opened the shop here in February 2012.  It’s been the best thing they’ve ever done on the working front but it’s time for a new injection of energy to take Mountainfeet forward.  Ironically, the Covid situation has massively boosted our turnover and customer base – with so many new walkers, runners and climbers needing footwear and healthcare, the future for specialists like Mountainfeet has never been brighter…
